The Role of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) Teachers in Shaping Students’ Religious Character at Madrasah Diniyah (Madin) Darussalam Bango

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) teachers in shaping students’ religious character at Madrasah Diniyah (Madin) Darussalam Bango and to identify the strategies and challenges involved in this process in the digital era. This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach. Data were collected through observations, interviews with PAI teachers, the head of the madrasah, and students, as well as relevant activity documentation. Data were analyzed through data condensation, data presentation, and conclusion drawing and verification. Data trustworthiness was examined through source and method triangulation. The findings indicate that PAI teachers contribute to shaping students’ religious character through religious instruction, guidance and advice, exemplary conduct, habituation of religious practices, and behavioral guidance based on Islamic values. Strategies for character formation also need to include strengthening religious and digital literacy, promoting responsible use of technology, and providing continuous guidance. The challenges include the influence of the digital environment, limited instructional time, and the need for family support to reinforce the values taught at the madrasah. Therefore, collaboration among teachers, the madrasah, parents, and the wider community is necessary to support the consistent development of students’ religious character.
