Mengajarkan Katekisasi yang Holistik (Studi Praksis Pengajaran Katekisasi yang Berkarakter Kristus di HKBP Josua Tebing Tinggi)

Abstract

This study aims to examine and propose a holistic catechism teaching model for developing Christ-like character among young people at HKBP Josua Tebing Tinggi. The study is motivated by the reality that catechism programs often emphasize theological knowledge and preparation for confirmation, while their application in daily life is not always evident. The challenges posed by technological developments, social media use, changing interaction patterns among Generation Z, and gaps in faith understanding between younger and older generations further strengthen the need for a catechism approach that addresses life as a whole. This study employs a literature review method by utilizing theological and biblical sources, church documents, and observations of ministry practices in the church. The findings indicate that holistic catechism should encompass cognitive, spiritual, emotional, moral, social, and environmental dimensions. The formation of Christ-like character serves as the center of instruction through following Jesus example, internalizing Gods Word, participating in ministry, and applying faith in everyday life. The implementation of holistic catechism requires synergy among teachers, parents, and the church while encouraging catechism participants to take responsibility for themselves, respect their parents, care for others, and protect the environment. Thus, catechism should not stop at theological knowledge but should produce character transformation and concrete actions as followers of Christ.
