Abstract
Competency-based learning is an educational approach that focuses on the mastery of knowledge, skills, and attitudes that learners are required to achieve. The background for the need for this strategy lies in the limitations of traditional approaches, which tend to emphasize the achievement of grades rather than genuine understanding and practical application of competencies. This article aims to comprehensively examine the definition of competency-based learning, its foundations, principles, strengths, weaknesses, and competency-based learning strategies in schools (mini research). The method used is a literature study that reviews relevant scientific sources, including educational textbooks, research articles, and educational policy guidelines. The results of the analysis indicate that this strategy includes the establishment of clear competencies, structured instructional design, continuous and performance-based assessment, and constructive feedback. Its implementation has been shown to increase learning motivation, the relevance of learning materials to the needs of the world of work, and students’ problem-solving abilities. The main conclusion is that competency-based learning is an effective alternative for improving the quality of education; however, it requires adequate infrastructure support, teacher training, and adjustments to assessment systems in order to be implemented optimally.
