Abstract

This study aims to improve students’ learning activeness through the implementation of the Active Learning strategy in the Islamic Creed and Ethics subject, specifically on the topic of Schools of Islamic Theology (Ilmu Kalam), among grade XI Medical Science students at MAN Purwakarta. The research employed a Classroom Action Research (CAR) approach conducted during the Teaching Practice Program (PPL) in the first semester of the 2025/2026 academic year. The procedure followed the Kemmis and McTaggart model consisting of four stages: planning, action, observation, and reflection. Data were collected through observation, interviews, tests, and documentation, and analyzed using descriptive qualitative and simple quantitative techniques. The results indicated that the application of the Active Learning strategy significantly enhanced students’ learning participation. Students became more confident in expressing opinions, engaged actively in discussions, and maintained enthusiasm even during the final class hours. The learning atmosphere transformed from passive and monotonous into an active, communicative, and enjoyable environment. Furthermore, the strategy reduced learning boredom, strengthened peer collaboration, and improved teachers’ professionalism in classroom management. Therefore, the Active Learning strategy is effective in Islamic Creed and Ethics learning as it fosters active participation, critical thinking, and religious values among students.
