Applying the Discovery Learning Model through Classical Arabic Texts to Improve Qawāʿid Mastery among Eleventh-Grade Students of MA MAI Purwakarta

Abstract

The learning of Arabic qawÄÊ¿id (grammar rules) often tends to be monotonous, as it remains dominated by the lecture method, which makes students less active and hinders their understanding of word formation patterns (á¹£arf). This study aims to create a more participatory and meaningful learning experience through the implementation of the Discovery Learning model integrated with the classical Arabic texts Amsilatu al-Taá¹£rÄ«f and Matan Bina’ wa al-AsÄs, focusing on improving the qawÄÊ¿id comprehension of eleventh-grade students at MA MAI Purwakarta. The research employed a Classroom Action Research (CAR) design conducted in two cycles, each consisting of planning, action implementation, observation, and reflection stages. Data were collected through observation, learning outcome tests, and documentation, and analyzed using both qualitative and quantitative descriptive methods. The findings indicate a significant improvement in students’ activeness and comprehension, with the average score increasing from 66.25 in the first cycle to 80 in the second cycle, and the learning mastery rate reaching 86%. These results affirm that the application of Discovery Learning based on classical Arabic texts can effectively bridge traditional and modern approaches to language instruction. Through this method, students not only gain a conceptual understanding of Arabic grammar but also engage in an enjoyable learning process that fosters curiosity and enhances their confidence in learning Arabic.
