Abstract
The principles and factors of curriculum development involve a deep understanding of how curricula can evolve in accordance with the needs of society and the times. The underlying principles of curriculum design include independence, relevance, diversity, and equity. Factors influencing curriculum development encompass technological advancement, social change, labor market demands, as well as societal aspirations and values. By taking these principles and factors into account, curriculum development is expected to contribute holistically to the field of education and remain relevant for future generations. The purpose of this study is to identify the definitions of the principles and factors of curriculum development, to examine the main principles involved in curriculum development, and to explore the factors that influence it. This paper is a literature review employing qualitative analysis. The results indicate that the principles and factors of curriculum development are two interrelated aspects that play a crucial role in determining the direction and quality of education. Curriculum principles serve as essential foundations and guidelines for designing, implementing, and evaluating a curriculum to ensure alignment with educational goals. Meanwhile, the factors of curriculum development significantly influence the direction, content, and implementation of the curriculum to meet learners’ needs and the demands of the era.
