Abstract
The student engagement of class X.2 at MAN Purwakarta in the Islamic jurisprudence (fiqh) and zakat subject is very low, primarily because the lesson takes place during busy hours (11:20-12:40) in a large classroom. This situation tends to cause students to be passive, and some have fallen asleep during class. This study aims to improve student engagement through the implementation of the Team Games Tournament (TGT) method. This classroom action research was conducted in two cycles, each consisting of planning, observation, and reflection. The subjects of this study were 36 students of class X.2. Data were collected through student engagement observation sheets and photo documentation. The results showed a significant increase in student engagement. In the pre-cycle, student engagement was only 40%. After implementing TGT in cycle I, it increased to 65%. In cycle II, student engagement reached 85%. This improvement was evident in student enthusiasm in group discussions and academic competitions. The TGT method has proven effective in increasing student engagement and addressing learning challenges during busy hours and in large classrooms.
