Tingkat Pengetahuan dan Respons Mahasiswa terhadap Perubahan Iklim di Kota Tasikmalaya

Abstract


Climate change is an environmental issue that affects human life, ecosystems, agriculture, health, and resource availability. As an educated group, university students hold a strategic position in enhancing understanding and promoting responses to climate change. This study aims to analyze the level of knowledge and responses of university students to climate change in Tasikmalaya City. The study employed a quantitative approach using a survey method conducted from May to June 2024. The research respondents consisted of 144 university students selected through purposive sampling. Primary data were collected using a questionnaire based on a 1–5 Likert scale and analyzed descriptively based on the mean scores of each indicator. The results showed that students’ level of knowledge about climate change was categorized as high, with a mean score of 3.71. Students demonstrated relatively good knowledge, particularly regarding rising temperatures, greenhouse gases, deforestation, drought, and the impacts of climate change on agriculture. Meanwhile, students’ responses to climate change were categorized as moderate, with a mean score of 2.72. Their commitment to reducing and preventing climate change was categorized as high, whereas their involvement in affected communities, participation in mitigation activities, and engagement in campaigns were categorized as low. These findings indicate a gap between students’ knowledge and commitment and their involvement in concrete actions.
