Partisipasi Perempuan dalam Pengambilan Keputusan Pada Keluarga di Pedesaan (Studi di Desa Boddia Kecamatan Galesong Kabupaten Takalar)
Abstract
Rural women play a broader role than simply managing the household. In addition to being responsible for domestic work, they are actively involved in family economic decision-making, such as determining income allocation, household expenditures, and investment in children's education. This study aims to Some women also determine strategies for managing fishermen's catches for sale or storage, as well as provide advice on long-term financial planning. On the social side, women participate in decisions related to family health, choosing their children's schools, and organizing community social activities. Their presence in informal community forums, such as social gatherings (arisan) or farmer/fisherman group meetings, allows them to voice their aspirations and influence decisions that impact family welfare. However, this study found several obstacles that limit women's participation. First, patriarchal norms and gender stereotypes remain strong, so that final decisions in the family often remain in the hands of their husbands. Second, economic dependence on their husbands makes women feel less empowered in making strategic decisions. Third, high domestic burdens limit their time and energy for active involvement in economic and social activities. Fourth, limited access to information, education, and economic networks reduces women's opportunities to make better, knowledge-based decisions. These findings confirm that women's roles in fishing families are shaped by the interaction between socioeconomic structures, gender constructions, and local culture. Increasing women's participation requires interventions that consider gender equality, economic empowerment, and reduced domestic burdens, so that women can make more effective decisions for the well-being of their families and communities.
