Harmonization of Study Schedules and Zuhur Prayer Practices at Nahdlatul Ulum Islamic Boarding School, Maros Regency: A Maqasid al-Shariah Perspective
Abstract
This study discusses the policies of Nahdlatul Ulum Islamic Boarding School in Maros Regency regarding the scheduling of study time and the implementation of congregational Zuhur prayer from the perspective of maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah. This research is a field study with a qualitative approach. Primary data was obtained through interviews with campus leaders, school principals, supervisors, and teachers, as well as documents like the activity schedules of students at Nahdlatul Ulum Islamic Boarding School in Maros Regency. Secondary data comes from fiqh literature on the theory of maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah. The analysis technique used is descriptive analysis with a maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah approach, allowing conclusions to be drawn. The research results show that the study schedule at Nahdlatul Ulum Islamic Boarding School in Maros Regency is carried out systematically, with learning sessions running from 07:30 to 13:10 WITA, while the congregational Zuhur prayer is held from 13:10 to 13:30 WITA after all learning activities are completed. The policy of postponing the Zuhur prayer is implemented to avoid negative effects such as disruptions to the learning process, weak student supervision, and less effective delivery of learning materials. From the perspective of maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah, this policy is an effort to protect ḥifẓ al-‘aql by creating effective and organized learning, while still maintaining ḥifẓ al-dīn. In line with that, from the perspective of fiqh al-awlawiyyāt, this policy is seen as a form of prioritization because the Zuhur prayer falls within a broad time range, while the learning process has a more limited time and is bound by the academic schedule.
