Agama di Ruang Publik: Mobilisasi Sosial Gereja Berbasis Pengharapan Eskatologis dalam Merespons Krisis Multidimensional

Abstract

The multidimensional global crisis—encompassing ecological, public health, political, and economic dimensions—has eroded social cohesion while generating uncertainty and collective suffering. This article examines the role of eschatological hope as social capital and transformative energy for the church’s public action in responding to these crises. In contrast to escapist interpretations that defer worldly responsibility, the central argument demonstrates that the theological framework of the “already—not yet” motivates the church to become an agent of structural change. Through a theological literature review and a contextual-practical approach, this study analyzes how narratives of hope can mobilize communities to engage in policy advocacy, environmental stewardship, and humanitarian solidarity. The findings indicate that the church’s holistic mission—which encompasses social justice, ecology, and economics—is a tangible embodiment of active hope. In conclusion, the church is called to be a proleptic community that manifests signs of social restoration in the public sphere. Faith working through love serves as a strategic foundation for strengthening community resilience and transforming public policy in an era of polycrisis.
